Life groups
Why Life Groups?
One of the core values of Emmanuel Community is helping everyone to find a place of regular, life-giving connection and support in the community.
Life Groups are designed to deepen your relationship with Jesus & make big church small. Each group provides space to know others, and grow spiritually in a caring, informal environment.
We have over 40 in-person groups ranging in location and season of life so there is a place for everyone.

Small Groups
Small groups are made up of 3-5 couples and can include singles too. Small groups are a rich way to dig deeper into each other’s lives. SGs meet according to the agreement of the group, but once a month is a good sustainable rhythm. The goal of small groups is largely mutual support, with an open sharing about life and faith in a space where the relationships can grow in trust and support. They can also begin or end in prayer or worship. Small groups often organise social get-togethers to complement times of deeper sharing.
Group size: 6-12 people. A great space to share the journey of life and receive mutual support with others.
Connect Groups
Connect Groups larger than Small Groups and intergenerational. Usually meeting in homes once a month on weekends and are inclusive and welcoming for families. Connect groups provide a relaxed and supportive ‘community within a community vibe’ where members intentionally journey together, forming authentic caring relationships through sharing meals together, praying with each other, vulnerable sharing and worship.
Group size: approx 20-50 including adults and their children. A great space to grow together as disciples and build caring relationships with a wider range of people.
Hood Groups
Hood Groups are Brotherhood and Sisterhood groups (‘Hoods’)
They are smaller in size again than a small group with the aim of supporting one another at a more transparent level. These are a safe space with others of the same sex to share your ‘top 10% and bottom 10%’ of life, pray for one another, and build a sense of accountability in areas of personal growth and holiness. Hoods generally work best when kept regular and manageable to fit more easily into the busyness of life.
Group size: 3-5 men or women. A great way to grow with the support of a small group of brothers or sisters.
