Our Vision and Mission
Growing contagious followers of Jesus and paving ways for the Church of the future
Our mission is to welcome and invite all people to experience Jesus in the power of the Spirit. We create ways where all generations can find their home in the Catholic Church, thrive in faith, and live out their calling as missionary disciples in the world.
Our Core Values
Universal / Local / Eucharistic / Ecumenical
Based in the Archdiocese of Brisbane with a unique role in the universal Church, we are a lay-led Catholic community whose mission is strengthened by the Eucharist, inspired by the Saints and guided by the Church’s ongoing teaching. Recognizing our connection with all Christians in ‘one Lord and Spirit’, we are committed to collaboration with a variety of groups and ministries in the body of Christ. Emmanuel is a founding member of the international ‘Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships’, accountable to the Holy See.
“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.” – Ephesians 4:5
Baptism in the Spirit
Encounter with Jesus / Charismatic Gifts / Current of Grace
Central to our identity is the experience of a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, of release in the power of Holy Spirit, a new freedom in worship, and empowerment with charismatic gifts. This is the ‘current of grace’ that gave birth to the origins of our community and continues to animate and sustain all of our faith and mission.
“You, Charismatic Renewal, [are] a current of grace in the Church and for the Church...” – Pope Francis, CCR Convocation 2014
Daily Life / Outward Focussed / Lay Leadership
We share God’s heart for our lost and hurting world in need of love, salvation and healing. We view our entire lives as a mission, where in every state of life we reach out to those around us with the gospel of Jesus, aware of the vulnerable and marginalised. We particularly nurture and raise up lay leadership in our midst, encouraging everyone to discover and live out their vocation and calling in the Church.
“Set apart for me Paul and Barnabus for the mission I have prepared for them to do” – Acts 13:2
Covenant / More than Sundays
We believe in a ‘more-than-Sundays’ Christianity that is lived out through relationship with others in a common life for Christ. We respond to Christ’s radical call to “come follow me” by laying our lives down for God and each other in a whole-of-life commitment, expressed in the language of ‘covenant’.
“No-one claimed that any of their possessions were their own, but gave generously to any who had need... and God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all” – Acts 4:32
Spirit-led / Contemporary / Sacramental
We are a people marked by expressive, contemporary, Spirit-led worship; this is when our charism most clearly manifests itself and our outreach is most powerful. Our celebration of the sacraments are infused with a spirit of worship. We rediscover our calling and identity whenever we seek the Lord together in worship, prayer and revelation through the Word of God.
“The place where they were meeting was shaken...” – Acts 4:31
Welcoming / Authentic / God with us
We are a community of believers who welcome everyone into our midst with warmth and acceptance, with lives of authentic faith that are grounded in caring, real and life-giving relationships. Through our love, our hope is that those who come among us may experience ‘Emmanuel’ – that God is with them.
“Show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart” – 1 Peter 1:22
Embracing All Generations
Youth / Singles / Families / Seniors
We welcome people of every age and stage in life to find their home and thrive among us. We are intentional about welcoming young couples and supporting families as the ‘first community’ of faith. We are dedicated to building up our youth, igniting faith in their hearts and launching them into their future. We encourage our singles to live vibrantly for Christ and our seniors to live life to the full.
“And the birds of the air came and nested in its branches...” – Matthew 13:32
Seeing Ahead / New Models of Church / Daily Life
We are called to be a prophetic sign to the Church and the world by what we do and who we are, as individuals and as a community. We are a people moving forward who feel called to ‘see ahead for the Church’ with prophetic inspiration and vision. Communicating the gospel in the language of contemporary culture, we challenge ourselves to continually seek out new paths and explore new ways of ‘being the Church’ in the modern world.
“The movements and new communities are like an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Church and in contemporary society” – Pope Benedict, to the Catholic Fraternity, 2008
