School of Mission
“I am confident that the School of Mission will be a blessing for the Archdiocese and throughout Australia... I recommend it to those who are seeking a deeper formation in the Church’s mission of evangelisation.”
Archbishop John Bathersby
Archbishop of Brisbane
The School of Mission (SOM) is an initiative of Emmanuel Community and a direct response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a new evangelisation and to the mission ad gentes. He tells us that this evangelisation must be "new in its ardour, methods and its expression and heralded with new energy in a style and a language adapted to the people of our day” (to the Assembly of CELAM, Haiti, 9 March 1983).
With a variety of formation programs each year, the School of Mission draws together the expertise and gifts of a variety of prominent ministries and individuals in order to provide practical, theologically sound formation to equip all whose hearts long to actively engage in the new evangelisation. The formation will combine theory, practice and reflection on the practice of mission, incorporating those “new” dimensions of evangelisation that were so important to John Paul II.
